Efficiency is the primary goal of any machine. A computer does not care about the journey; it only cares about the result. Humans, however, are built on the journey. Our relationships are defined not by the information we exchange, but by the effort we expend.
Now, we have tools that can write our emails, craft our wedding vows, and even compose apologies to estranged friends. The result is perfect. The grammar is flawless, the tone is empathetic, and the structure is logical. But is it real?
When you outsource your communication to an algorithm, you are outsourcing your soul. An apology written by AI carries no emotional weight because it required no emotional labor. You didn’t struggle to find the words; you didn’t confront your own guilt. You simply prompted a machine to solve a social problem.
The “Final Human Update” tempts us to automate everything. But we must draw a line. We can automate our taxes and our scheduling, but we cannot automate our humanity. If the words aren’t yours, the connection isn’t either.
