Welcome back to Pariganaka.com! As artificial intelligence continues to reshape the global tech landscape, Sri Lanka is gearing up to take center stage and make a massive leap forward.

Mark your calendars, because from September 28 to October 4, 2026, Colombo will transform into the ultimate hub for technological innovation during the highly anticipated Sri Lanka AI Week 2026. Held under the theme “AI Amplified,” this major national initiative aims to accelerate the country’s digital economic transformation. The event is jointly organized by the Ministry of Digital Economy, GovTech Sri Lanka, and SLT-MOBITEL.

The Vision: From Consumer to Creator

During the official launch, Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eranga Weeraratne emphasized that humanity is transitioning from the Information Age into the “IQ Era”. He stressed that Sri Lanka must evolve from being a passive consumer of global technology into an active producer of AI-powered solutions. Empowering the local IT sector with strong AI capabilities and robust research and development (R&D) is seen as a crucial step toward achieving the national target of US$5 billion in technology export revenue.

7 Days of AI in Action: What to Expect

Building on the success of the inaugural National AI Exhibition and Summit held in 2025, this year’s expanded program features four flagship events across multiple venues in Colombo:

• AI Leaders Night (September 28): An exclusive evening dedicated to networking and fellowship, connecting global speakers, government leaders, policymakers, and corporate executives.
• AI Conference (September 29 – 30): A two-day summit featuring world-class keynotes, panel discussions, and enterprise insights designed to drive thought leadership in AI.
• National AI Expo (October 2 – 3): A free-entry tech exhibition showcasing practical and cutting-edge artificial intelligence solutions across major industry sectors.
• National AI Awards (October 4): A ceremony to recognize corporates, startups, and individuals who have excelled in scalable AI implementations, with awards spanning over 16 sectors.

New Tech Announcements

Alongside the event lineup, SLT-MOBITEL unveiled two major sub-initiatives during the launch. These include SMART AI, which is described as South Asia’s first AI tokenization platform, and the AI Hub, a national engagement platform designed to connect learners, researchers, academia, industry, and the government within a single digital ecosystem.

Why This Matters for Sri Lanka Right Now

With plans to democratize AI technology beyond Colombo and establish a dedicated National AI Institute, the government is making a serious push to position Sri Lanka as South Asia’s premier AI technology hub. Dr. Mothilal de Silva, Chairman of the SLT Group, also affirmed that 2026 will mark the largest AI transformation in SLT’s history, supported by accelerated 5G rollouts, modernized IP infrastructure, and data centers upgraded to be fully AI-ready.
