What is it? Scammers are now using AI tools to copy the exact sound of a person’s voice using just a 3-second audio clip (usually stolen from a public social media video). They then use this fake voice to call family members, pretending to be in an emergency and asking for money to be transferred immediately.

The Human-Friendly Fix: You don’t need anti-hacking software to beat this; you just need a family conversation.

• Create a “Safe Word”: Agree on a secret word with your close family members. If you ever get a frantic call from a loved one asking for emergency funds, ask for the safe word. An AI scammer won’t know it.
• Hang Up and Call Back: If something feels off, hang up the phone and immediately call the person back on their saved number.

• Take the case off while charging: Thick phone cases trap heat. If you are plugging your phone in for a full charge, slip the cover off to let it “breathe.”
• Avoid the dashboard: Never leave your phone on the dashboard of your car or exposed to direct sunlight on a cafe table. If you are using maps while driving, position the phone mount right in front of the AC vent to keep it cool.
