Moving beyond conventional chatbots, Meta’s latest AI models introduce ‘Active Memory’ and ‘Active Focus’ to execute complex tasks—but this leap toward personal super intelligence comes with a premium price tag.

The artificial intelligence arms race has officially shifted from conversation to action. Meta has launched Muse Wonder, a new AI model designed to handle complex personal and professional tasks on behalf of the user. Positioned as a direct challenge to industry leaders like OpenAI and Anthropic, Muse Wonder marks a pivotal evolution in how we will interact with digital environments.

Rather than simply answering questions, this new model is engineered to power intelligent digital assistants that operate as true agents.

From Chatbots to Action-Oriented Agents

The defining characteristic of Muse Wonder is its agentic architecture. Unlike conventional chatbots that merely generate text or answer queries, AI agents powered by Muse Wonder can take direct action. According to the report, these agents can assist users in everyday activities such as booking travel, checking restaurant availability, and ordering groceries.

To achieve this, Meta has built the system upon two foundational pillars, as outlined by Meta AI Chief Alexander Wang:

  • Active Memory: This feature allows the model to retain important context across multiple conversations. It actively retrieves relevant details from past interactions, ensuring the AI remembers what matters to the user and applies that earlier information to the current task.
  • Active Focus: This enables the AI to sustain effort toward challenging goals. When Muse Wonder encounters obstacles, it tries alternative approaches, works through blockers, and adapts to new information. Furthermore, it is designed to ask for clarification when needed and check in with the user before executing important actions.

The Two Tiers: Wonder and Wonder Full

Meta is rolling out this technology in two distinct tiers, aiming at both everyday consumers and advanced developers:

  • Muse Wonder: This model powers the paid version of Meta’s Muse Personal AI assistant and is accessible to developers via Meta’s model API.
  • Muse Wonder Full: Described as the more powerful variant, this model is specifically tailored for software engineering tasks and is currently available to developers through Meta’s AI tool, Muse Code.

A Major Shift in Meta’s Digital Strategy

Perhaps the most significant industry takeaway from the Muse Wonder launch is Meta’s pivot in business strategy. Historically, Meta has relied heavily on advertising revenue and championed open-source AI models. With the Muse Wonder series, the company is keeping its most advanced models closed and shifting toward a paid subscription model.

While the basic Muse app—which recently launched and gained rapid popularity in the United States—remains free to download, accessing the advanced capabilities of Muse Wonder comes at a cost.

  • Subscriptions for the personal assistant start at $20 per month, with higher-tier plans reaching $100 per month.
  • For developers, Muse Code subscriptions featuring Muse Wonder Full are priced between $50 and $200 per month.

The Privacy Equation

As AI transitions into an agentic role handling sensitive tasks like travel and groceries, data security becomes paramount. Meta claims that Muse Wonder includes stronger safeguards against cyber misuse. However, the report notes that these enhanced privacy protections are currently associated with the paid models.

The Road Ahead

Meta has invested billions of dollars to build an AI ecosystem capable of competing at the absolute highest level. The Muse Wonder series represents a major leap toward what the company calls “personal super intelligence”. If these agentic models can reliably and safely execute complicated tasks without constant human intervention, they have the potential to fundamentally alter digital workflows at both home and work. The ultimate test will be whether consumers and developers find this automated efficiency dependable enough to justify the new premium subscriptions.
