Digital Immortality

Digital Immortality

Will our data live longer than our names?

throughout history, immortality was reserved for the pharaohs who built stone pyramids or the emperors who commanded armies. The common person was destined to be forgotten within two generations.

The Digital Age has changed the rules of death. We are currently building pyramids of data that dwarf the monuments of Giza. Every photo uploaded, every comment posted, and every email sent is a brick in a digital structure that could theoretically last forever.

But this raises a haunting question: What happens to our “digital ghosts”?

Decades from now, social media platforms will be populated by millions of profiles belonging to the deceased. These profiles will continue to float in the cloud, frozen in time, perhaps occasionally “remembered” by an algorithm on a birthday. We are creating a world where the past never truly fades.

However, unlike stone, data is fragile. It requires electricity, servers, and maintenance. We are betting our legacy on the hope that future generations will keep paying the electric bill for our memories.
